Top Five Utah Jazz All-Time Leading Scorers

The Utah Jazz franchise is one of the NBA’s most successful. The Jazz have been a playoff team in 24 of the last 27 seasons with a .546 all-time winning percentage, the fifth best in the NBA. The Utah Jazz’s all-time leading scorers are topped the Hall of Fame duo that propelled the team to most of that success, John Stockton and Karl Malone.

1. Karl Malone: 36,374 points

The Utah Jazz’s all-time leading scorer is a member of the 2010 Hall of Fame class, Karl Malone. The Mailman had a remarkable 18-year career with the Jazz and spent all but the final season of his career with the team. Malone’s rookie year was the only one in which he didn’t average more than 20 points per game in Utah. Through he never led the NBA in scoring, he finished in the top five 13 straight times and his career total of 36,928 points is the second most in league history. The two-time MVP and 14-time All-Star averaged a career best 31.0 points per game in 1989-90. He led the Jazz to the Finals in 1997 and 1998 and averaged a double-double for his career with 25.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

2. John Stockton: 19,711 points

One of the elite point guards in basketball history, Hall of Famer John Stockton is second on the Utah Jazz’s all-time leading scorers list. Scoring was always a secondary endeavor for Stockton, the NBA’s all-time leader in assists with 15,806 and steals with 3,265. Still, he averaged 14-plus points per game for ten straight seasons and retired with a career average of 13.1 per contest in 19 years with the Jazz. The ten time All-Star averaged a career-high 17.2 points per game twice, in addition to leading the league in assists in both seasons and nine times overall.

3. Adrian Dantley: 13,635 points

Recently inducted Hall of Famer Adrian Dantley was the star of the team before the Stockton and Malone era and he remains one of the Utah Jazz’s all-time leading scorers. Dantley spent seven of his 15 NBA seasons in Utah, averaging 29.6 points during his tenure and 24.3 for his career. An explosive and efficient scorer, Dantley averaged at least 30 points per game for four straight seasons with the Jazz, twice winning the NBA scoring crown. The six-time All-Star scored a total of 23,177 points, good for 20th in NBA history. His career .540 field goal percentage is the best ever recorded by a guard.

4. Darrell Griffith: 12,391 points

A great scoring guard for the first half of the 1980s, Darrell Griffith ranks fourth on the list of Utah Jazz all-time leading scorers. The Jazz chose Griffith with the second pick of the 1980 NBA Draft and he spent the next ten years with the club. Griffith earned Rookie of the Year honors with 20.6 points per game and added another three straight seasons of 20-plus scoring averages from 1982 to 1985. He was one of the top outside shooters in the early three-point NBA, leading the league in treys twice and in three-point percentage once.

5. Thurl Bailey: 9,897 points

Power forward Thurl Bailey spent ten seasons in Utah and ranks fifth among the Jazz’s all-time leading scorers. Bailey was a great sixth man for the Jazz in the 1980s. He averaged double-figures in scoring for seven straight seasons with the team from 1985 to 1992, adding more than five rebounds per game in each campaign. During his most successful run, he twice averaged more than 19 points per game in 1987-88 and 1988-89. With an additional three years in Minnesota, Bailey totaled 11,834 points in his NBA career.

Jazz Clubs question by Didi: Could you let me know of any cool jazz and salsa clubs in Manhattan?
My husband and I will be in NYC during the Thanksgiving weekend and would like to go to cool jazz clubs in the city. Besides the famous Blue Note, what other places could we go? Also, we enjoy salsa dancing and would like to go to a groovy or elegant salsa club.
