Indian Festivals Celebrated In The Months Of April To June
In this post we will see the festivals celebrated during the months of April to June.
Baisaki:
This festival is corresponding the Hindu New Year. People congregate to the holy Ganges to bathe and worship. It is thought that Holy Ganges came to the Earth on this day centuries ago. This day is also renowned as Tamil New Year day in Tamilnadu with fairs at many places. Sikhs celebrated this day as the anniversary of “Khalasa” a group founded by Guru Gobind Singh.
Urs Festival:
It is an interesting part of this six day long celebrations with continuous quawali singings, fairs, and the grand feasts celebrated at Ajmeer, held at the Darga a great temple build by Humayun. This is an annual festival honor the death anniversary of the “Sufi saint”.
Meenakshi Thirukkalyanam or Chithirai Festival:
This annual festival held at Madurai in Tamilnadu performs the celestial weddings of the Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Shiva. With all the solemnity and majesty that Royal wedding celebration in the vast courtyard of the temple. This attracts thousands of devotees from diverse parts to have a glance of the wedding with all the dance and music that is happening.
Pooram:
This festival is celebrated in Kerala at Thrishur. In this great festival 30 elephants with massive tusks. The elephants are colorfully festooned and painted with all the silk and gold plated shields, carry Brahman. The whole city wears a celebratory look to receive the march past.
Hemis Festival:
Hemi Gompa is a place about 40 kilometers from Leh. The people called Gompas dance with masks and blow the trumpets and beat the drums. Endorse tale of the past where Gods slay evil spirits. The villagers from Ladakhi in traditional dresses assemble here to observe the festival.
Buddha Poornima:
This is the day celebrated to commemorate this day Buddha attained enlightenment many centuries back. This festival celebrated mainly in the Buddhist centres in India such as Bodh Gaya, Saranath, and Nagarjuna Sagar.
