<p>For those of you &quot;in the hood&quot; just wanted to remind you that this weekend is the Hawaii Book &amp; Music Festival. Details below:</p>
<p><strong>Hindu Festivals : I Love my India</strong></p>
<p>
 It&#8217;s been said often enough that Hindus celebrate everything. So they do. The birth of gods, death of asuras, victory of the gods, marriage of the gods, the new year, new months, full moons, new moons, harvests, birthdays, initiations, marriages, deaths, anniversaries &#8211; you name the event, and it is reason for music, dance, processions, and what have you. And there is the religious bit lurking behind it all.</p>
<p>
 The reasons for this lie deep, in the origin of Hinduism as an organic religion. Its followers have over time considered anything, animate or inanimate, to be sacred and aspects of divinity. That is also why even secular events like harvests take on religious overtones, with the patron deity presiding over the festivities. As soon as something happens, there is a kind of thanksgiving to the divine that follows it. Apart from the universally celebrated festivals like Dussehra, Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi, there are others that are observed in specific communities or geographical areas. Hindu holidays are also confined to particular regions by the importance a certain god enjoys.</p>
<p>
 Worship of Kartikeya (as during the festival of Skanda Shashti) is predominant in Tamil Nadu, where the god is considered a patron of the region. Onam is a good example of a festival that is celebrated solely by Keralites. Another interesting aspect of Onam is that it is perhaps the only major Hindu festival that celebrates the reign of an asura king, although a benevolent one. The profusion of legends and the contradictions inherent in them is reflected in festivals too. Travel around the country, and you will hear people tell you a variety of legends involving different gods behind a single festival. Besides, you will also find versions of the same festival being celebrated under different names in different regions. All this adds that facet of unending novelty and constant change to the strikingly colourful kaleidoscope that is India.</p>
<p>
 You might end up thinking the thought: &#8220;The more things change, the more they remain the same&#8221;, which is something often said about India and its magical agelessness. With so many holy days and more than 20 major hindu festivals, the calendar should be liberally sprinkled with them. But it isn&#8217;t so. There is a distinct festival season, which runs from late August through December. This is when there is a fever of celebrations, with a string of important festivals following one another in a rush.  </p>

<p>We both love jazz and to hear it live is even a bigger treat. Second Life is probably the best venue in the world to hear live music from all corners of the world.</p>
<p>Tonight, we dropped off at <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Marco Island/218/25/21" rel="nofollow"><b>The Savoy</b></a> to hear <a href="http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=ninnybrand@gmail.com&amp;ctz=America/Chicago" rel="nofollow"><b>Nina Brandenburg</b></a> singing a jazz set of great classics. From Frank Sinatra to Cole Porter, her range is beautifully designed for these classic jazz songs.</p>
<p>We also saw <a href="http://myguesthouse.blogspot.com/" rel="nofollow"><b>Crighton Johin</b></a>, owner of <b>The Savoy</b> dancing on the floor, too! What a great way to spend our Saturday evening with the classics of jazz.</p>
<p><strong>Ten Best Hollywood Movie Disc Jockeys</strong></p>
<p>Japanese movie poster: Wolfman Jack, far right, in American Graffiti (1973) &#8211; Heritage Auction Galleries</p>
<p>The venerable DJ – or disc jockey – has played an important role in the movies. Here are ten movie deejays who score high in Hollywood history. It’s an eclectic list, with our story beginning in northern California… </p>
<p><b>Wolfman Jack/American Graffiti (Universal, 1973)</b></p>
<p>The legendary Wolfman Jack (1938-1995) winningly plays himself in director George Lucas’ ode to cruising and rock ‘n’ roll. Broadcasting from a radio station just outside of an unnamed northern California town, the omnipresent Wolfman Jack dominates the film, spinning records and engaging in his patented deejay chatter as our main characters cruise the main drag during one unforgettable summer night in 1962. At first just a voice on Mexican radio station XERB, we later meet Wolfman Jack when Curt Henderson (Richard Dreyfuss) journeys to the isolated facility, requesting that the Wolfman broadcast a personal message to the sultry blonde (Suzanne Somers) now cruising the streets in her white 1956 Thunderbird. The bearded deejay denies being the famous Wolfman, but later as Curt is leaving the station we see the disc jockey take to the airwaves live through a studio window, thundering into the mike and leaving no doubt as to his true identity. George Lucas had personally cast Wolfman Jack in American Graffiti, as he had been a fan of the deejay while attending high school in Modesto, California. &#8220;Sneakin’ around with the Wolfman, baby. This is gonna strike a raw nerve, Mama. Here’s the Platters!&#8221; Wolfman howls in one scene.</p>
<p><b>Clint Eastwood/Play Misty for Me (Universal, 1971) </b></p>
<p>Clint Eastwood plays cool Dave Garver, who works as a jazz deejay at KRML Radio in northern California. Dave is a swinging bachelor with a groovy girlfriend named Tobie (Donna Mills), but is not beyond hooking up with one of his fans, Evelyn Draper (Jessica Walter), who regularly calls in requesting the old Erroll Garner classic &#8220;Misty.&#8221; Their one-night stand – &#8220;with no strings attached,&#8221; heh, heh – triggers the beginning of a nightmare, as the psychotic Evelyn relentlessly stalks Dave, ruining his chances for a coveted deejay job at another station, cutting up his housekeeper Birdie (Clarice Taylor) and kidnapping his steady gal pal. The Dave Garver role suits Clint Eastwood perfectly, as the actor has an abiding interest in jazz. James McEachin plays &#8220;Sweet&#8221; Al Monte, Eastwood’s fellow deejay. &#8220;Why don’t you play some Montovani some time?&#8221; John Larch as police Sgt. McCallum asks. &#8220;Didn’t know you liked the show,&#8221; Dave Garver replies. &#8220;I don’t. I like Montovani,&#8221; counters McCallum.</p>
</p>
<p>Promotional photo: Clint Eastwood as DJ Dave Garver with Donna Mills in Play Misty for Me (1971) &#8211; Heritage Auction Galleries</p>
<p><b>Adrienne Barbeau/The Fog (Avco Embassy, 1980)</b></p>
<p>Adrienne Barbeau plays husky-voiced Stevie Wayne, the deejay owner of KAB 1340 Radio in fictional Antonio Bay, California. Broadcasting from an old lighthouse, Stevie coos to her late-night listeners, playing soft music and relaying weather reports from her meteorologist boyfriend Dan O’Bannon (Charles Cyphers). But when a mysterious fog begins to roll in, bringing with it six ghostly apparitions hell-bent on revenge, the heroic Stevie becomes the eyes and ears of the small northern California town, directing her listeners (Tom Atkins, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, et al.) to safety from the menacing mist and its 19th century killers. &#8220;There’s something in the fog!&#8221; Stevie shouts into the microphone, making for a grand old time in this John Carpenter horror movie classic. </p>
<p><b>Robin Williams/Good Morning, Vietnam (Touchtone, 1987)</b></p>
<p>Robin Williams plays Adrian Cronauer, the real-life U.S. Air Force enlisted man who broadcast his show over Armed Forces Radio in Saigon during the Vietnam War. The irreverent Cronauer quickly runs afoul of his immediate superiors, Lieutenant Steven Hauk (Bruno Kirby) and Sergeant Major Dickerson (J.T. Walsh), who want to kick the young deejay off the air. Robin Williams, who garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, gives a tour de force performance as the slick, energetic Cronauer. &#8220;Goooooooood morning, Vietnam! Hey, this is not a test! This is rock and roll! Time to rock it from the Delta to the D.M.Z.!&#8221; Williams’ Cronauer begins his signature introduction.</p>
<p><b>Tim McIntire/American Hot Wax (Paramount, 1978)</b></p>
<p>Tim McIntire delivers as Alan Freed (1921-1965), the legendary deejay credited with popularizing the term &#8220;rock and roll.&#8221; American Hot Wax centers on the year 1959, with the pioneering Freed trying to put together a rock ‘n’ roll show at Brooklyn’s Paramount Theater. No stranger to controversy, Freed had battled the authorities and record company honchos since his early days in Cleveland radio. Jay Leno plays Mookie, with Fran Drescher as Sheryl and Laraine Newman as Teenage Louise. &#8220;Whispering Bells&#8221; (the Del Vikings), &#8220;Sea Cruise&#8221; (Frankie Ford), &#8220;A Thousand Miles Away&#8221; (the Heartbeats) and &#8220;Little Darlin’&#8221; (the Diamonds) are among the film’s classic rock ‘n’ roll tunes. &#8220;You can stop me, but you’re never gonna stop rock and roll!&#8221; McIntire’s Freed proclaims during the riot scene at movie’s end.</p>
<p><b>Paul Kaye/It’s All Gone Pete Tong (Matson Films, 2004)</b></p>
<p>Paul Kaye plays Frankie Wilde, a successful deejay whose career is threatened by drug abuse and hearing loss. A former musician, Wilde becomes a sensation on the Ibiza club scene, but later disappears because of growing cocaine use and a hearing problem. It’s a story of tragedy and triumph, with Frankie eventually compensating for his disability and returning to the deejay booth. The movie’s &#8220;Pete Tong&#8221; in the title refers to the legendary English deejay who broadcasts for BBC Radio 1. The real Pete Tong appears briefly in the film, along with Beatriz Batarda, Kate Magowan and Mike Wilmot. &#8220;I was thinking, you know Paul Newman’s got his salad dressing and that? So why not Frankie Wilde Hummus?&#8221; Paul Kaye’s deejay character announces.</p>
<p><b>Jon Jacobs/DJ Hound Dog (Golden Shadow, 2003)</b></p>
<p>Jon Jacobs (billed as John London) plays DJ Hound Dog, a klutzy British transplant from Miami who claws his way up the ladder to deejay fame and fortune in Ibiza. Cameo appearances by world-famous DJ’s Pete Tong, Tiesto, Eddie Halliwell, Bob Sinclair, Robbie Riviera, Junior Jack, Carl Cox, Lisa Lashes, Monica X, Kai Tracid, et al., give the movie legitimacy and added international glitz. Charlotte Lewis and Tina Wiseman provide the requisite club eye candy.</p>
<p><b>Paul Kalkbrenner/Berlin Calling (Movienet, 2008)</b></p>
<p>Real-life electronic music maestro Paul Kalkbrenner plays Martin Karow a.k.a. DJ Ickarus, with Rita Lengyel as gal pal Mathilde and Corinna Harfouch as psychiatrist Professor Dr. Petra Paul in this offbeat German film. It explores the Berlin club scene through the eyes of the increasingly paranoid Ickarus, including the electronic trance music rage and the myriad of drugs available to the famously anointed.</p>
<p><b>Ray Vitte/Thank God’s It’s Friday (Columbia, 1978)</b></p>
<p>Ray Vitte plays Bobby Speed, the groovin’ deejay at a swinging disco club named The Zoo on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Zoo is a &#8220;meet market,&#8221; where on-the-make clubgoers knock down drinks, gyrate to the pounding disco sound and try to hook up for the obligatory one-night stand. Donna Summer a.k.a. &#8220;The Queen of Disco&#8221; plays Nicole Sims, a fledgling singer who badgers DJ Bobby Speed to play her demo record. Look for Jeff Goldblum and Debra Winger in this dancefest, with Ray Vitte’s Bobby Speed spinning such disco tunes as &#8220;Hollywood&#8221; (the Village People), &#8220;Last Dance&#8221; (Donna Summer), &#8220;Love Masterpiece&#8221; (Thelma Houston) and &#8220;Thank God It’s Friday&#8221; (Love &amp; Kisses). &#8220;Hey listen, man. When I, Bobby Speed, promises his audience live music, he delivers,&#8221; Vitte pronounces. Got your platform shoes handy?</p>
<p><b>Alan Freed/Rock Around the Clock (Columbia, 1956) </b></p>
<p>Alan Freed plays himself in what many view as the first rock ‘n’ roll feature film. The story centers on Bill Haley and His Comets, who are discovered by promoter Steve Hollis (Johnny Johnston) in small-town America. There’s plenty of &#8220;decadent&#8221; rock ‘n’ roll music in this one, along with appearances by such artists as the Platters, Freddie Bell and His Bellboys and of course Bill Haley and His Comets, whose signature song &#8220;(We’re Gonna) Rock Around the Clock&#8221; provides the movie’s title. When shown overseas, Rock Around the Clock spawned teenage riots in some movie theaters. Alan Freed also portrayed himself in Don’t Knock the Rock (1956), Mister Rock and Roll (1957) and Go, Johnny, Go! (1959).</p>

<p><strong><i>Jazz Clubs question by kyle</i>: Where are the Local Jazz Clubs?</strong><br />
Hey guys im an 18 year old musician who is really into jazz. I play tenor saxophone and will be majoring in music in college. I am totally in love with jazz and i need to start listening to it more, especially live. What my question is where in New York or New Jersey would be suitable for an 18 year old to go see some live jazz performances. Just NY or NJ clubs </p>
<p>Thank you so much in advance !</p>
<p><strong>Jazz Clubs best answer:</strong></p>
<p><i>Answer by Teaim</i><br/>The Jazz Gallery is a great place for musicians to check out whats new and exciting in jazz. Its downtown on Hudson Street, just north of Spring. </p>
<p>Also, check out the Village Vanguard on 7th Ave, just south of St Vincent&#8217;s Hospital.</p>
<p>I have been to most of the clubs, and these are the ones I personally enjoy the music at most. </p>
<p>If you want to, you can mail me a date when you are planning on checking out a show and I will check the city&#8217;s calender for that night and give you a suggestion on which show to attend. I have seen most of the musicians gigging in NYC.</p>

<p><strong>The Day The Music Died</strong></p>
<p>
 We were now as we should have been forever; we were family. No catastrophes, no drama, no incidents; things were as normal with us as they were with any other family. We succeeded at some things and we failed at others. We had good times and we had our share of bad times. We fussed with each other and we enjoyed each other. We had weddings, funerals, birthdays and parties. Our lives went on.
</p>
<p>
 The events of the last 9 or 10 years were already fading from memory. The Black man who had captured my Mother’s heart so many years ago, lived far enough away that I wasn’t seen as being associated with him any longer. The wedding between my White Mom and the Black man in 1950, was rapidly becoming something of the very distant past. People who six months ago were looking down on us in disgust, now at least acknowledged our existence.
</p>
<p>
 Life was wonderful. I forgot about the trials we had been through over the last several years and concentrated on making what I had right then as much as it could be. Finally I was excited about my life. I was looking forward to the next day and the next and the next. I had never done that before, I had never wanted tomorrow to even come and now I could hardly wait. It’s surprising how little one needs to make such a big impression. We were not by any stretch of the imagination rich, well to do or even extra comfortable, but we had everything we needed and we were enjoying our newfound contentment.
</p>
<p>
 Friday, June 5th1964 was my last day of school for the year.  The bus squealed to a stop in front of my house for the last time for at least three glorious summer months. I got off and ran up to Dad’s car. He was in it just sitting the way he liked to do. I went to his window and said “Hi Dad.” “Yup,” was his dry response. “Can I sit?” “Sure, come on in.” he said as he moved his hat off the passenger seat. I liked to sit with Dad and just look at whatever he was looking at. We sat for an hour or so and Dad finally got out and went inside for dinner. I followed suit and was hot on his tail.
</p>
<p>
 The next day Dad got up early and left for town; he didn’t take anyone with him today. He got home about 5:00 PM late that afternoon and as he liked to do, he just sat in his car looking out over his spread. It was Saturday night and that was an important night on television for Dad. He really liked watching a show called “Hootenanny.” It was a musical variety show that concentrated on folk and country music.
</p>
<p>
 The time for Hootenanny came and I jumped up to go out and get Dad. He must have heard the music because he was already out of his car but he wasn’t coming in. It looked like he was fixing the windshield wipers; he was bent over in the crack of the open door with his arm lying on the windshield.
</p>
<p>
 “Dad!” I called out. “It’s Hootenanny!” I started back in but I noticed he just stood there and didn’t even acknowledge me. Usually he would have said something like “Yup, in a minute.” But he wasn’t responding at all. I turned back around and looked closer and something seemed wrong. Dad’s head was hanging down and his eyes were pointed at the ground; he wasn’t looking at the windshield at all. I could see his other arm now just hanging down the side of the door and he wasn’t even moving. Both of Dad’s legs were bent slightly at the knee and his feet were not level on the ground; it was almost like he was hanging from the door.
</p>
<p>
 I stopped short! I went numb all over and just stared. My blood chilled and everything around me stopped. I couldn’t hear anything or see anything, but Dad. The sky darkened, the wind calmed, the birds quit singing; there was a deafening silence like just before a big storm. My mind raced with the many different possibilities and still it came down to only one likely outcome.
</p>
<p>
 I knew what must have happened but I prayed that it didn’t. I told myself, “It can’t be. Not now, oh God, not now, not now, not now.” “MOM! MOM!” I screamed as loud as I could. I couldn’t hear myself but I knew I was screaming. I was racing to Dad but I couldn’t get there. I wanted to get to him in time to help him, but I couldn’t move. No matter how fast I ran I wasn’t getting anywhere.
</p>
<p>
 Suddenly I was at Dad’s side. I didn’t want to touch him but I had to. I knew what had happened, but if I touched him it would make it all too real. I slowly backed up a couple of steps and screamed again, “Mom!” I was alone trying to acknowledge this terrible thing that had happened to Dad. No one was responding. Nobody was coming to help me. I had to try to help him myself. I had to let myself see the truth. I finally let myself go to him. I could see his eyes were half closed and his mouth was open. He was drooling but he wasn’t breathing. His face was empty and white. My Dad’s strong, gentle, loving face was gone. He had taken it with him when he left.
</p>
<p>
 I grabbed him under his arms and pulled and struggled to stand him up. He was just too heavy; I couldn’t move him. I kept calling out to him “Dad!” “Dad!” But I got no response. I could still feel his heat but I knew he wasn’t there any longer. I knew he had left, but I was not ready to accept it. I prayed hard and fast. I prayed but I knew the answer. I had already seen Dad, I knew God couldn’t bring him back now. Still, I prayed and cried and yelled for Mom and called to Dad and prayed some more. “Please God don’t take him now; don’t take my Dad.”
</p>
<p>
 I grabbed his arm with both hands; my face wet with emotion, my voice quaked with fear. I shook his arm hard and demanded he answer me. “DAD, you have to talk to me!” Still there was nothing. I heard footsteps coming up behind me; it was Mom. “Harry, HARRY! Answer us! Harry!” Dad didn’t hear us; he didn’t even know we were there. He had went on to a better place and left only his shell behind. He left only the Dad we recognized not the Dad we knew.
</p>
<p>
 Just then the ambulance pulled in. Somehow, someone had enough wits about themselves to place the call. The attendants went right to work on Dad. They tried to get him to breath right there but nothing seemed to work. They got Dad moved over to their cart and hauled him to the ambulance. As they were pulling away we were all getting into Mom’s car; we were going to follow them into town.
</p>
<p>
 We arrived at the hospital just in time for the Doctor to come out to the waiting room and tell us that Dad was dead. He was pronounced dead on arrival. Dad was dead. His ordeal was over. He no longer had to worry about Mom or where she was or what was going to happen to her or when she might want to come back to him. He no longer had to fight to get his children back in his fold. His story was finished being told.
</p>
<p>
 Mom collapsed into one of the chairs in the waiting room. She buckled under the pressure and lost control. Her slight frame shook with audible sobs of anguish and fear. She had waited far too long and now she was alone. The doctor left and we just waited. We waited for reassurance. We waited for promises. We waited.
</p>
<p>
 A nurse finally came to us and asked us if we wanted to see Dad. Mom said yes and we went with the nurse to the last room Dad had ever been in. He was there, appearing even more silent than he did at home. So much power, so much strength, a heart full of love…and now he was silent.
</p>
<p>
 His clothes were neatly folded and stacked on a chair in the emergency room. We gathered his things, said our final goodbyes and left the way we came. Suitably, the room where Dad lay was very dimly lit and a gray pallor hung low over Dad’s bed. He looked good; he still looked good. He had regained his weight since the bout with pneumonia and his barrel chest swelled the sheet they had pulled over him. He was still freshly manicured from his trip into town this morning; he was a presence to be reckoned with, even in his silent death.
</p>
<p>
 Probably the worse news anyone can receive is that a loved one has passed away. There are some things that can make that horrible news even more depressing. Dad had left just as things were getting better. His family was finally all home. His Son in the Army was coming home very soon. Dad was making plans to remarry his wife of 30 plus years. There is never a good time to leave; just some times that may be worse than the others.
</p>
<p>
 June 6th, 1964 was the first day of my summer vacation. It was my first summer vacation ever that would follow a full year of school at one home. My nine-year ordeal was coming to an end. Mom and Dad were getting married. It was almost over. Now, it was definitely over, forever!
</p>
<p>
 7:30 PM, June 6th, 1964 &#8211; Dad was dead!

<p><strong>Basement Jazz Club</strong>

<p>It doesn&#8217;t look like much but Le Petit Journal did the trick for evening Jazz.</p>
<p><strong>Four Secrets Caribbean Island</strong></p>
<p>
 To refresh your senses and numb the flames, with the participation of the Caribbean extravagant break. golden sands, the sun continues, and an unlimited view of the sparkling blue waters, are part of all the Caribbean. Here we will see how to loosen in the Turks and Caicos, go on an adventure in Barbados, Jamaica part or maybe admire the magnificence of Santa Lucia.
</p>
<p>
 Quiet as the Royals in the Turks and Caicos Turks and Caicos is the jewel of the Caribbean.
</p>
<p>
 Relatively intact, they offer the luxury off the beaten track. It should be noted that these island destinations have remained a small thing a secret, if you think about the facts, they have the third largest coral reef in the world, and it is in relatively close distance from major airports in Cities like Miami. With a normal climate of 25 degrees Celsius, the minimum rainfall in each season, and perhaps the most beautiful beaches in all the islands in the Caribbean, this hidden paradise at this relaxing vacation that dreams of managing hectic.
</p>
<p>
 Imagine escaping the constant ringing of a telephone while serving drinks to the top ocean view. The prospect of utopia really should not be limited to the most innovative minds, and that is very real. Just 90 minutes from Miami by the biggest of Turks and Caicos, Providenciales. With the local currency is the U. S dollar and all the people who speak fluent English, there is little reason to book a trip with a group of islands is so perfect that it almost unique.
</p>
<p>
 Barbados adventure is easy to just go to Barbados in the comfort and ease in your couch, but it is much more you find.
</p>
<p>
 While golf can be a walk &#8220;spoiled good&#8221; based on the literary legend Mark Twain acid, it is obvious he has never known the 18-hole Barbados offers four golf courses on the PGA standard, both players every day and willing to appreciate what gifts the island to play golf.
</p>
<p>
 There is also gratifying to know that the rain will never limit your game casting your line into the surrounding waters may perhaps encourage critics more hard-core fishing. The abundance of charter boats that provide a day of fishing, refreshments, gear, and transportation to and from your home, it may be difficult to refuse.
</p>
<p>
 Forget about halibut and pike, in Barbados, you can catch a great fish like barracuda, Blue Marlin and Kingfish. Two other specialties Barbados surfing and snorkeling. It a fact that Barbados is one of the first sites chosen by serious surfers for this holiday, perhaps because it offers a constructive surfing conditions on the planet. Many international surfing competitions are held on the east coast of the Super Bowl-favorite people in sight.
</p>
<p>
 Surprisingly clear waters of Barbados can not be outdone when it comes to sports. Flora and fauna can be displayed in areas where visibility is almost 100 feet under water. Mysterious sinking of guns and hundreds of previous years, can be viewed in Carlisle Bay. Barbados is a great place for travelers seeking adventure and good weather throughout the year makes it an ideal place for tourists of all ages and expectations.
</p>
<p>
 Party in Jamaica for non-stop partying, look no further than Jamaica.
</p>
<p>
 One of the popular nightclubs in all of Jamaica is Kingston Club Habibi. You are guaranteed a great night at a club like no other on the island. Curved walls and floor of the club only red lighting dance, you take away the mundane. This club is known for connecting new partners with amazing regularity, and not surprisingly, Habibi is Arabic for &#8220;love.&#8221; If you are looking to start the night early, you should visit Margaritaville Negril, a club that opens at 9 am and offers all the holidays and the day is activities to its customers.
</p>
<p>
 Among the strengths of the club (apart from the well known margaritas, of course) can be huge water trampoline that allows you to make even a small percentage of his years as a child, as part of their break. When you publish your pent-up stress and lived the morning, afternoon and evening you can relax in the seven km stretch of golden beach and watch the sunset. No visit to Jamaica would be complete without experiencing the music and take advantage of the island offers.
</p>
<p>
 Almost all people think of reggae music island, but there is also a high-quality jazz and blues cultures. Popular Redbones Blues Cafe in New Kingston opens at 11 am, when we try the local cuisine, has both the day session offers the best of jazz in Jamaica. Above is just a small taste of what Jamaica has to offer to visitors. Let your hair down and go to the island where the event is always only be stopped if you say so.
</p>
<p>
 St Lucias Lovely attractiveness</p>
<p>
 Saint Lucia has all the other Caribbean islands, and can be a great attraction for honeymooners and other couples in love. For those who are thinking of nightlife and music, Rodney Bay is where you should go to the reggae music can be relaxing for passengers throughout the night.
</p>
<p>
 In addition, there is the possibility of deep sea fishing and exciting pursuits such as surfing, but Saint Lucia is located in a complementary part of nature and culture. After spending a few days just enjoying the sun, you can get itchy feet and want to get more, but intense activity is not on top of his agenda. On the island there is no need to stay late or perhaps tiring yourself, enjoy yourself.
</p>
<p>
 More postcards are not the height of elegance extraordinary landscape of St. Lucia. and, except in harbors and bays, St. Lucia is home to a dormant volcano and tropical forests. Exotic species such as parrots and hummingbirds and more plants, rare orchids, can be found in the 19, 000 hectares of forest. Mt Gimie, the best point of the island, Edmund Forest Reserve and Regional Trauma cascade the stream of curiosity to learn about.
</p>
<p>
 And if this were not enough, you can choose the level of exercise among 29 miles of trails surrounded by natural wonders. If you are wanting to raise their level of exercise on a screen, can play a game of cricket or perhaps maybe football. Beausejour Cricket Park is internationally recognized and provide an ideal place to test your skills of cricket on the rise. If you are not really a participatory process, is kept in local friendlies. St. Lucia offers many levels of fun things to escape, but is stimulated.

<p><strong>Emoticon Thinking: FREE Ways to Promote Your High School Musical or School Play</strong></p>
<p>Marketing, promoting and advertising a High School Musical or School Play used to involve printing off posters and putting them up around town. Word would get out and the town would show up.</p>
<p>Today, that&#8217;s probably not enough. So how can you rouse the community to support the school and come out for the fine arts? The kids are probably way ahead of you. Facebook, myspace, twitter, email, texting &#8211; the kids are all on line. Time for you to be as well!</p>
<p>Facebook provides the ability to create an event invitation. You set it up with the time, information about the show and how to buy tickets. Get your cast members to forward the invitation to all their friends and so on.  Before you know it thousands of folks will have received notice that the show is coming up. Better yet, every person invited is now part of a mailing list that the event administrator can now use to send updates and reminders. You can also upload photos and links to newspaper articles about the show!  (Not FREE but useful are Facebook ads. You can pay by click and get a lot of exposure for little cash outlay.)</p>
<p>Twitter is worth trying, even though it requires a bit more effort than Facebook. Because folks can search based on location and other key words you can start to gain followers with tweets that include your city and high school. It&#8217;s also worth adding the twitter account name to poster and other publicity. Twitter can be used to build excitement about the show with updates about rehearsals, costumes and other trivia. </p>
<p>Email lists are always powerful. Ask other groups at the school to pass the word for you. If possible put up a simple website with ticket info for news and other sites to link to.</p>
<p>You may also want to experiment with tying in with local restaurants. Dinner and a show or a free desert with show ticket could be a way to get the restaurants to do more than just hang your poster in the window.</p>
<p>Finally, don&#8217;t forget the traditional ways of getting the word out. Posters still work wonders. A photo in the local paper is fun and lets people know about you. Churches and other community groups will also usually hand out information about your show as well.</p>

<p>Website Smart TV &amp; Sound : Guide to Digital Home Entertainment.</p>
<p>The Website Smart TV &amp; Sound is an electronic magazine about “technologies and products for the home entertainment network”, said in the site.</p>
<p>The design of the site is very simple and functional, there you can search the monthly edition of magazine between 1997 to 2005, archived great number of reviews and articles. Interesting as archeological research about technology and technical support to TV. </p>
<p>Recently the site is make about the Latest News actualized one time to week, more or less. In this section you can search newest and interesting articles and notices.</p>
<p>In general:  the site is good, full of information, but great part of it is old, and the minor section is actualized. However, the site has a useful articles how-to-make and detailed explanation about the function and functionalities of web, sound and TV technologies.   </p>

<p><strong><i>Entertainment News question by Penny</i>: Where do bloggers,entertainment and news websites get their pictures and videos from?</strong><br />
I would like to start an entertainment website or blog but I can&#8217;t afford to pay for celebrity pictures or video. Is there anywhere on the internet I can get some footage or celebrity pics for free?</p>
<p><strong>Entertainment News best answer:</strong></p>
<p><i>Answer by brisray</i><br/>Entertainment and news sites pay agencies for the photographs and videos. Due to the amount of money involved (they are not cheap) they get possessive of them and don&#8217;t like other people ripping them off.</p>

<p>Australian blues Band Bluezone performing live during Channel 7 news broadcast June 2007.</p>
<p><strong>News From Apple With The Iphone 3G S</strong></p>
<p>Apparently the new GS model 3 is similar to 3 G, but we are changes as regards the running speed and duration of rechargeable batteries, as well as improvements to the selection and integration of voice messaging.
</p>
<p>The camera and camera have been widely expanded: now the shots are 3 MPixel, a value much higher than the previous 2 Mpixel model.<br />
<br />Not only do you get pictures sharper and less blurry, but there will also yield better quality in digital enlargements. The camera also has a speed of 30 frames per second, which means a fluid vision of your movie without pictures. An add-on to this new version, then lets the pictures and videos can be sent by e-mail.
</p>
<p>Now the new iPhone also runs the multimedia like photos and video, audio and digital locations on the map: these changes were claimed by the public Apple, and the parent has decided to implement this new version of the iPod.<br />
<br />Furthermore, the research content in your mobile phone is now made even easier: just double tap on the display and the search function, which covers all the files on your phone. You then have direct access to music files, as well as photos or video. You can also find an MP3 by title.
</p>
<p>Another innovation is the voice recognition system, which is based on a new technology: be careful to articulate well the name of person you want to forward a call otherwise your iPhone you will understand. The system is still calibrated to fit the normal use of any user. The voice system can also be used to access the audio and start playing an MP3 voice enunciating his title.

<p><strong>A Trip Through Time, The Sterling Renaissance Festival</strong></p>
<p>
 Attending the Sterling Renaissance festival is like taking a trip through time. For starters it is basically out in the middle of nowhere, so by the time you get there, you&#8217;re starting to wonder just how lost you&#8217;ve become, and then all of a sudden there it is. You pass through the castle gateway to enter are immediately transported to Warwickshire in the 1500&#8242;s.</p>
<p>
 The streets are lined with quaint little huts and more than half of the attendees are dressed in Renaissance garb. Attending in costume always makes it more fun as you truly do feel like you&#8217;re in the Renaissance world, and when you&#8217;re in costume the actors will often include you in their comic improvisation.
</p>
<p>
 There is what I will call an actual Renaissance cult, or &#8220;true rennies&#8221; as they often call themselves who do not simply attend Renaissance Festivals, they live for them. They study the era, are adamant about historical accuracy in speech, bring the festival fun home with them, and never attend a festival without being properly costumed. It is not necessary to be part of the Renaissance cult to enjoy the festival, however, and there are countless normal people every weekend who enjoy the fest almost as much as the cult rennies.</p>
<p>
 Perhaps the reason the festivals appeal to such a wide range of people is due to the very fact that they are not entirely historically accurate. (Let&#8217;s face it, the real Renaissance Europe was not exactly fun and games.) Renaissance Festivals tend to bring out the best of the romanticized Renaissance era that we have come to know and love through novels such as The Three Musketeers or films like Everafter and Knight&#8217;s Tale (which of course are favorites among the Renaissance cult). They combine all the most enjoyable elements from the medieval and renaissance times. </p>
<p>
 The Sterling Renaissance Festival has a different theme each weekend. The weekend I attended was Fantasy Costume weekend, which meant that all the geeks (myself included, as a character from the Legend of the Seeker television series) were out and about dressed as their favorite fantasy characters. By far my favorite costume of the day was the guy dressed as Mr. Tumnus from the Chronicles of Narnia. He had the furry faun legs, the horns, and a set of hooves; it was very cool.
</p>
<p>
 The Sterling fest has fun for the entire family. The musical entertainers of the realm are always spectacular with the Empty Hats topping the list of favorites. There are musicians around every corner at the Faire, and they are all greatly talented, but there is still only one Empty Hats. They have a large following at renaissance festivals and their lively music and clever lyrics are enjoyed by all. Their song &#8220;Black Velvet Band&#8221; always gets the crowd singing along. Sharing the stages with the musicians are a variety of talent acts from Daniel Duke of Danger and his mixture of comedy and balance to Johnny Fox an authentic sword swallower.</p>
<p>
 There are dozens of shows going on from the always amusing trial and dunk, to the washer women, to the men of mud pits (who kind of look like the Geico cavemen by the end of the show). Just beware, they ask for hugs after the show. There is even usually a Shakespeare play going on at one of the stages for the so inclined. Plenty of good food (don&#8217;t miss the fried dough and apple dumplings for dessert) and a host of actors wandering around the grounds gives it all that Renaissance feel, though I do have admit that I found the Medieval clown with butterfly wings just a little bit creepy.</p>
<p>
 If the shows are a bit grown up for the younger festival attendees, they will certainly enjoy the rides and games. Some of them such as the throwing stars and axes will win them prizes if they hit their mark. Others such as archery allow a person a great opportunity to poke fun at themselves. I was so bad at shooting arrows, the man in charge of the area jokingly told me I had to come back when the festival closed and gather all the ones I&#8217;d shot over the roof! There is also a grove of fortunetellers ranging from tarot carders to palm readers for those curious about what the future might hold.</p>
<p>
 Lining all the streets are numerous artisans, many of whom are performing live demonstrations of their crafts. They are dressed in period costumes and only too happy answer any questions, in a Renaissance English accent of course. It&#8217;s hard to give them all a thorough visit in one day, so I usually pop in and out of most them choosing 6 or 7 to really take my time in. This year those included the herb shop, the glass maker (who was giving a demonstration of how he delicately made very neat glass dragons), all of the costume vendors (I&#8217;m a total sucker period costumes), a talented fairy artist named Renae Taylor, a swordmaker, the tapestry weavers, and the leather carver, but there were ever so many more I would have camped out in as well had there been more time!</p>
<p>
 Of course the biggest draw of the Renaissance Festival is the armored joust which occurs twice a day. It takes place on the Field of Honor and often times the royal procession, led by Queen Elizabeth herself, comes to watch the knights compete. The joust is very much a performance with comical dialogue and fighting sequences. It involves both sword fighting and jousting with lances. The large draft horses they ride, though being rather historically inaccurate, are very impressive in looks for entertainment purposes.</p>
<p>
 Before the joust, the knights vie for the crowd&#8217;s attention. The side of the field I was on loudly cheered for Sir William while the opposite side of the field gave their support to Sir Oren. Sir Oren also made an attempt to gain our side of the field by singing lyrics to &#8220;Why can&#8217;t we be friends,&#8221; but his efforts were futile as our half of the field continued to root for Sir William who ended up as champion of the tournament. (It makes me wonder if they change the winner every performance or if it is the same script all season) It is highly entertaining and not a performance to be missed.</p>
<p>
 All in all the Renaissance Festival makes for a fun annual outing and is well worth the hour and half drive it took to get there.</p>

<p><strong>Show Your Pride at The Mid South Pride Festival And Parade!</strong></p>
<p>
 If you thought that you missed Memphis’s annual Mid South Pride Parade and Festival this past June, never fear. You didn’t miss it; pride organizers opted for the cooler month of October.  The Mid South Pride Parade and Festival will be held on Saturday October 16, 2010 at Peabody Park at the corner of South Copper Avenue and Higbee in Midtown Memphis and admission is free and open to the public. </p>
<p>
 The festival starts at 10 am on Saturday morning with an array of vendors and organizations throughout the park selling food, crafts, and bringing awareness of different organizations and GLBT and GLBT-friendly businesses.  The parade lineup begins at 3pm at First Congregational Church at South Cooper and Walker, and will begin at 4pm, and will march down South Cooper ending back at the Festival site. </p>
<p>
 This year’s Grand Marshall’s feature three students who stood up to their schools on the issues of GLBT rights in their respective states.  Contance Mcmillan gained national recognition when her high school refused to let her bring her girlfriend to her high school prom.  The teen from Fulton, Mississippi was also denied the right to wear a tuxedo to the event.  The Itawamba County School District instead cancelled the prom, and parents of other students sponsored a new prom for the students.  After a successful lawsuit against the school district, Constance received a ,000 settlement, and the district agreed to adopt a policy prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation.  Constance and her girlfriend were invited to several proms around the country, including the Prom for All hosted in June by the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center.  Eleven year old Will Phillips made headlines last fall when he refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance because it contained the phrase, “with liberty and justice for all.”  Phillips contended that the phrase is untrue because GLBT people are not equal under the law.  Finally, Ceara Sturgis is fighting her Wesson, Mississippi school because they refused to publish her senior yearbook photo in which she wore a tuxedo.  Additionally, her name was left out of the yearbook completely.  The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit on her behalf.  </p>
<p>
 The Festival’s featured speaker this year is Robin McGehee of Jackson, Mississippi, who is the co-founder and director of Get Equal, the carriage sponsor for Will Phillips.  McGehee helped organize Meet in the Middle for Equality in Fresno, California, a statewide reaction to the passage of Prop 8.  She has since co-directed the largely successful National Equality March in October 2008 in Washington, D.C.  Other speakers and entertainers include Marisa Richmond, PhD, who is the president of the Transgender Political Coalition.  She also serves on the board of directors of the National center for Transgender Equality and on the Sexual Violence Prevention Planning Committee of the Tennessee Department of Health.  The Adams Avenue Camerata is an all male chorus in Memphis, TN founded in 2009.    The Camerata has thirteen members who volunteer more than 500 annually to rehearsals and community service projects throughout Memphis.  Summer Osborne comes to Mid South Pride from Vandalla, Illinois with her musical blend of acoustic, folk, piano pop, blue-eyed soul, and rock.   Carol Plunk, a hometown favorite, will be playing at the festival this year, bringing her many years of musical talents to the stage.  The Holy Trinity Choir hail from the all inclusive church Holy Trinity located at 685 S. Highland in Memphis, TN.  Special guests will also be featured from “George’s Reunion,” a reunion celebration being held October 23rd in memory of a legendary establishment that brought Memphis’ GLBT community out of the closet in a major way. </p>

<p><strong><i>Music Festivals question by mr toasty</i>: How much does it cose to become a vendor at Lollapalooza or other music festivals?</strong><br />
I want to open up a little booth selling shirts for my company. About how much would it cost to get the booth space at any sort of music festival?</p>
<p><strong>Music Festivals best answer:</strong></p>
<p><i>Answer by PatV</i><br/>Every public venue is different regarding vendors. Some have long-standing relationships/contracts with shirt vendors. </p>
<p>Contact the arena/stadium/venue that you specifically are interested in. Remember, the business license and insurance is your responsibility. </p>
<p>Good luck&#8230;</p>
